Netbeans 6.1 beta & beyond... ( Updated 1x)

Στο παρελθόν είχα κάνει κάποια παράπονα για το Netbeans, όχι για το περιβάλλον εργασίας του, το οποίο το βρίσκω αρκετά καλό για την διπλωματική μου, αλλά για την ταχύτητα του και για την σταθερότητα του! Είχα βαρεθεί να σβήνω τα preferences για να το επαναφέρω.

Από την 6.1 Beta λοιπόν μέχρι και την RC2 που είμαστε σήμερα, κόντα 1 μήνα τώρα, δουλεύει απροβλημάτιστα και με δραματική βελτίωση στην ταχύτητα.
Μεγάλο μπράβο λοιπόν για αυτήν την πρόοδο με μόλις 0.1 διαφορά :-)

Ένα μήνα σχεδόν με την τελική 6.1 και κανένα ιδιαίτερο πρόβλημα. :-)

P.s 2 HOW TO: Transfer old settings to new Netbeans
Όταν βάζετε μια καινούργια έκδοση του Netbeans, σας ζητάει άμα θέλετε να περάσετε τις ρυθμίσεις από την προηγούμενη έκδοση. Δυστυχώς δεν λειτουργεί άψογα και αφήνει κάποιες ρυθμίσεις π.χ libraries ή icons customization εκτός.
Μια λύση που δουλεύει άψογα μέχρι τώρα είναι να πάρετε όλα τα αρχεία μέσα από τον παλιό φάκελο των preferences σας και να τα κάνετε copy-paste, replace all στον νέο φάκελο του Netbeans.
Όπως στον firefox δηλαδή, όταν τον μεταφέρετε από ένα λειτουργικό σύστημα σε άλλο.

Ωραίο δωράκι πριν την ανάσταση!
Εκεί λοιπόν που παλεύεις 7 ώρες για να κάνεις το #$^$%^ Linksys WAG354G(σκέτο σκουπίδι είναι) να δει το dynamic DNS που του έχεις ορίσεις και πιστεύεις ότι τίποτα χειρότερο δεν μπορεί να συμβεί στην ζωή σου, με μια σχετικά απότομη κίνηση του καρπού σου γίνεται αυτό!

Μίλησε κάνει για ποιότητα κατασκευής? Μετα απο 1,5 χρόνο το πλαστικό του macbook άρχισε μάλλον να εμφανίζει σημάδια κόπωσης. Bad Apple too bad! Fucking plastic quality!!
Ελπίζω οι φήμες για νέα μεταλλικά macbook ala macbook pro να βγουν αληθείς.

Χίλια ευχαριστώ στην Logo G που κολλάει γερά πολυ γερά! Αφού πρώτα κόλλησα τα δάκτυλα μου, κόλλησα επιτυχώς και το σπασμένο κομμάτι χωρίς να φαίνεται πολύ.

Freeware VNC Viewers & Servers ! (Updated 3x)

Χθες βράδυ χρειάστηκε για πρώτη φορά να δουλέψω αρκετή ώρα με έναν υπολογιστή που βρίσκεται στην σχολή μου μέσω VNC. To Setup ήταν το έξης:

• Σπίτι μου 24/1 MBPS Forthnet2Play - Macbook OS X Leopard
  
• Σχολή 70MBPS/3MBPS( δεν είμαι απόλυτα σίγουρος) - PC Win XP με Real VNC Server 4.3
  

Από παλαιότερες καταστάσεις γνωρίζω ότι το "πόσο καλά" θα συνδεθείς εξαρτάται από:

• Την ταχύτητα του δικτύου
  
• Βέλτιστο συνδυασμό Server-Viewer εφαρμογής
  

Έτσι λοιπόν ξεκίνησα δοκιμές 5 freeware Viewers και ακολουθούν τα αποτελέσματα....

1) JollysFastVnc Viewer

O Viewer που και καλά προσπαθεί να γίνει ο καλύτερος Viewer του κόσμου σύμφωνα με τον developer του, απλά δεν έχει καταφέρει να συνδεθεί ποτέ σε τίποτα!!
(Ίσως δουλεύει μόνο σε Mac to Mac ).

2) Real Viewer μέσω Browser

Μόνο με 64 χρώματα η κατάσταση μπορούσε να χαρακτηριστεί "λειτουργική".

3) Real Viewer for Mac!!

Mε μεγάλη χαρά ανακάλυψα ότι ο Real Viewer για Mac που και καλά δεν υπάρχει δωρεάν, τελικά υπάρχει. Κοιτάξτε την παρακάτω εικόνα. Για Windows τον δίνουν δωρεάν για Mac όχι .Αν κατεβάσετε όμως την trial Enterprise edition για Mac, θα διαπιστώσετε ότι ο Viewer είναι free και μόνο ο Server trial.
Τον βάζω λοιπόν με μεγάλες προσδοκίες μιας και Real Server από την μια, Real Viewer απο την άλλη, όμως..... ΣΚΑΤΑ. Ακριβώς ίδια απόδοση με την υλοποίηση που υπάρχει μέσω Browser.

4) VNC Viewer ενσωματωμένο στο OS X

Ο Finder του Leopard σου δίνει τη δυνατότητα να συνδεθείς σε VNC Servers, αλλά δυστυχώς δεν τα κατάφερα. Ίσως παίζει να δουλεύει μόνο για Mac to Mac, καθώς βλέπω ότι πετάγεται έναν μηνυμα για "screen sharing".

5) Chicken of the VNC

Η εφαρμογή έχει να αναβαθμιστεί από το 2006 και μάλλον παρατημένη είναι, αλλά ΝΙΚΗΣΕ τους πάντες.
Πολύ σταθερή εικόνα χωρίς συνεχόμενα refresh και η απόδοση της στα 256χρώματα ήταν ίδια και καλύτερη με αυτήν των 64 χρωμάτων του Real Viewer.

P.s 1 ΠΡΟΤΕΙΝΟΜΕΝΟΙ VNC SERVERS μετά από δοκιμές:
α) Real Server για PC.(free)
β) Vine Server για Mac(free)
γ) O embedded VNC Server του Leopard στον Finder σε αντίθεση με τον embedded Viewer, δουλεύει επιτυχώς, δεν έχει όμως πολλές ρυθμίσεις, οπότε προτιμώ τον Vine Server που είναι και λίγο πιο γρήγορος.

P.s 2
Το απογοητευτικό ήταν ότι αν και με τόσο καλές ταχύτητες , πραγματικά είναι αδύνατο να δουλέψεις για πάνω από μια ώρα έτσι. Πρέπει να έχεις γερά νεύρα!

P.s3 HOW TO: Solve Can't connect to VNC server. Security failed...
Αν υπάρχει πρόβλημα να συνδεθειτε στον VNC Server που θελετε καθως σας πετάει κατι του στυλ "security failed", παίζει να έχετε παλιά έκδοση Viewer σε σχέση με τον Server. Δοκιμάστε λοιπόν να κατεβάσετε νεότερο Viewer ή να απενεργοποιήσετε στον Server μια επιλογή που λέει prefer vnc authentication encrypted off.

Στο σπίτι, σε wireless Lan 54Mbps με εγκαταστημένο σε Pc, Win XP με Real Server 4.3(τον ίδιο όπως και στο προηγούμενο πείραμα), μόνο ο Real Viewer for Mac έπαιξε πάρα πολύ καλά με τεράστια διαφόρα από τα υπόλοιπα!
Πραγματικά δεν ξέρω τι να πω. Καταλήγω με αυτό που άρχισα αυτό το post συμπληρώντας ότι.

Apple's OS Edge Is a Threat to Microsoft .

It all started with Mac OS X, the multi-core, multi-processor platform officially released in 2001. Based on "Mach," a university UNIX research prototype, Mac OS X represented a clean break with the computer industry's uniprocessor past. The modular new OS allowed Apple to condense its core task management function into a tiny computing kernel.

That kernel has proved easily adaptable across the entire Apple product line, from highly complex servers all the way down to the relatively simple iPod Touch. Such modularity allows Apple to add whatever functions are necessary for each product environment—all while maintaining cross-product compatibility.

By contrast, Microsoft has held on to an OS tethered to the 1980s, piling additions upon additions with each upgrade to Windows. With last year's arrival of Vista, Windows has swollen to 1 billion bytes (a gigabyte) or more of software code. The "Mach" kernel of the Mac OS X, however, requires less than 1 million bytes (a megabyte) of data in its smallest configuration, expanding modestly with the sophistication of the application.

This bloating has saddled Vista users with increased costs and poor performance on average computers. Bloating has also led Microsoft to fragment its OS product line: one OS for the server, desktop, and laptop; one for cell phones and Zune music players; and a separate OS for its Xbox gaming console. Finally, through sheer complexity, bloating makes every subsequent "enhancement" of Windows buggier than the last. Thus, the current Vista product fiasco.

Ακούγεται ότι ένας από τους σημαντικότερους λόγους που το OS X και το Linux δεν πάσχει από malware και viruses είναι ότι επειδή δεν κατέχει μεγάλο ποσοστό στην αγορά, δεν είναι το προσφιλέστερο θύμα για τους κακόβουλους hackers.
Εν μέρει το πιστεύω και εγώ αυτό. Σίγουρα τα κρούσματα έλλειψης ασφάλειας θα ήταν περισσότερα. Για να δούμε όμως τι λένε και τα παρακάτω 2 άρθρα. Αξίζει να αφιερώσετε 10 λεπτάκια και να τα διαβάσετε.

Για αυτούς που βαριούνται να διαβάζουν, αν και αξίζει, ορισμένα keypoints:

1) Ιt is likely true that the limited exposure of Mac OS X to attacks, based on its historically small market share, has helped to prevent any Mac malware industry from developing. However, that’s not the only factor in play, nor even the most significant.

2) First, Apple’s iPhone platform is fully malware resistant. As that platform grows, it will be very difficult to distribute malware, easy to kill it, and trivial to clean it up. Apple is limiting the distribution of software in a model similar to the console video gaming market. There are no real malware exploits dogging the PlayStation 3, the Wii, or even Microsoft’s Xbox 360. There weren’t any for the Sega Genesis, nor the GameBoy, nor the NES. That’s because malware isn’t a product of popularity, it’s a symptom of weakness. The iPhone’s firmware, like all of those gaming platforms, can be attacked to run homebrew software, but that unsupported software can’t run on default systems, preventing any malicious malware from spreading outside the homebrew community.

3) Second, Mac OS X is going to follow in some of the same security practices as the iPhone:Apple can only grow, while Microsoft can only struggle against shrinkage), Apple will continue to erect new barriers to the problems that do not currently affect the Mac platform. There will not be a scourge of Mac malware because the Mac will harden its defenses before ever being seriously attacked. Additional Mac market share and the increase in attention from malware authors will not overcome the expense and difficulty of developing Mac malware that already exists. New efforts to bolster Mac security will keep the cost of developing Mac malware high enough to be impractical.
As will be detailed later, Microsoft did not work to stop malware on Windows because it either benefitted from it or because it saw no payback in solving the problem for users. Only when the security crisis of malware began to make Microsoft look bad did the company make any effort to address it, and by then it was too late to make meaningful, rapid adjustments. The absence of malware on the Mac is a key feature Apple advertises, so the company has a powerful incentive to stop malware attacks before they ever begin to infiltrate the platform.
Microsoft Wasn’t a Malware Victim; It was a Malware Villain. The future will not be a simple repetition of Microsoft’s past; even Microsoft is divorcing itself from its disastrously irresponsible engineering legacy. Will there be efforts to advertise spam, pop up ads, and spy on users in the future? Certainly, but those efforts will not delivered at firehouse pressures via the cheap, tacky Windows PCs that Bill Gates served up, where computers shipped right from the manufacturer with a poorly designed operating system full of weak holes, open ports, and ActiveX plugins that begging for exploitation, topped with bundled spyware from Microsoft itself and their prominent desktop real estate auctioned off to the highest bidder.

Γεγονός είναι, ότι εκμεταλλευόμενοι ένα hole στο Safari 3.1 hackers σε διαγωνισμό κατάφεραν και ¨μπήκαν¨στο OS X σε 2 λέπτα με έτοιμο κακόβουλο κώδικα.
